In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, the Ministry of Health Grenada, through Hospital Services, is urging the public to take an active role under the theme "Changing the Narrative on Suicide."
Developed by Licensed Professional Counsellor Nicole B. Johnson-James, the official campaign highlights the practical REACH framework—a step-by-step guide designed to help individuals recognize warning signs and offer life-saving support to those in distress.
How We Can Change the Narrative Together
Shift from Silence to Openness: Transition away from societal stigma by starting compassionate, judgment-free conversations.
Reframe the Message: Emphasize that suicide is preventable, not inevitable.
Use Supportive Language: Replace outdated or judgmental phrasing with respectful terms such as "death by suicide."
Promote Protective Factors: Strengthen protective community pillars, including strong family bonds, faith support, and social networks.
