A recent social media feature has brought renewed international attention to Grenada’s pivotal role in global healthcare training, spotlighting how an island nation of approximately 117,000 residents serves as one of the largest single sources of licensed physicians practicing in the United States. Beyond its local economic and educational impact, SGU continues to serve as a major engine for international health diplomacy, attracting students and faculty from more than 140 countries to Grenada while strengthening healthcare systems worldwide.
In March 2026 another 818 of its students were placed in training posts at American hospitals. At home, education led by the university is Grenada’s largest sector, at 17% of the economy.
